A New Normal #17 – Prayer

The National Day of Prayer: after many years of gathering at the gazebo behind City Hall, sometimes with 60 people, sometimes as few as 6, or 8… After many years we find that CoVid-19 has impeded our freedom to do so this year.
Hearts turning to God in this way is a good thing. 2 Chronicles communicates, “[If] My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Yes, I realize this was an Old Testament statement written to the people of Israel, yet let us not lose sight of the principle that, experientially it applies to us courting the favor of God. It is the idea of repentance from the wicked ways of man, and toward the face of God–His ways.
I think a good start to our prayers is that the people of God would repent, and that we pray for a high conviction (and response) upon this land to turn from all ways which are opposed to the Lord’s will.
But again, we cannot do this corporately this year… but God can hear our cries nonetheless. Matthew 6:6 tells us, “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”
Our prayers are not silenced. Our hearts are not hidden.
My prayer is the beautiful conviction of the Holy Spirit upon this nation.
An understanding of what is true and what is a lie.
An understanding of what is right and what is evil.
A realization that there are consequences to the choices we make.
And hearts which are softened.
That God would heal this land.
