Right Conduct

In my elementary school students received report cards tucked in an envelope which held the grades for that period. My report card always held straight A’s – except for one. There was a fifty-fifty chance every grading period that I would have a B in Conduct. Along with the mark was often a remark made by my teacher that if only I could learn to be quiet, I’d have potential in excelling in other areas. However, I had determined in my mind that chatting with friends was much more important to me! (more…)

The Bar

“Hey.” “Hey.” “What’s that?” “It’s a bar.” “What’s it for?” “Well, it’s sort of a standard, um…a measuring device.” “What’s it do?” “Well, like I said, it’s a standard, a measurement, eh, for who can come in.” “What’s it for?” “Well, it draws a line, it sets a standard for entry…you gotta step over the bar to gain entry.” “Can I come in?” “Only if you step over the bar.” “Dude, that’s kind of weird; seems like a weird rule, and kind of high from where I’m standing.” “Yeah, well, there has to be some kind of standard to get in; gotta step over the bar.” (more…)

Faulty default

I have a file of digital photos stored on my computer that has become my default location for finding pictures for documents. I didn’t set it up that way, but when I’m working on a project and need a picture to insert, the default kicks in. This requires closing that file and choosing and opening another. Irritating. There is probably an easy way to change all of this, but I haven’t figured it out yet. All I know is that for me, my default is faulty. (more…)
