Freed For Devotion
Saturday, June 28th, 2014
July 4th, 1776 Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence which made claim that the Colonies were to be “absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown,” on the basis of the king’s “injuries and usurpations.” They were able to do this on the authority of Natural Law which granted them the right to “dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another.” I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on America’s beginnings and celebrate our independence come Friday. Yet, freedom in America is a different than freedom depicted in God’s Word. (more…)

On Account of the Righteous
Saturday, June 21st, 2014
If you are like me you have asked the question, “Why doesn’t the Lord wipe out the United States?” For over two hundred years our spiritual and moral erosion has increased exponentially. Surely we have surpassed the sinfulness of Corinth, and we long obliterated the level of sin expressed in Sodom and Gomorrah; so, why would God travail for the likes of us any longer? We have openly and belligerently defied his pure and loving presence in our nation. (more…)

Legacy
Sunday, June 15th, 2014
What comes to mind when you hear the word “legacy”? Perhaps it is somebody’s reputation. Maybe it brings to mind the name of quality paint, or a good brand of windows for your home. Fly-flickers
Saturday, June 7th, 2014
I’m not a horsey person, but it seems to me that it’s about time for our equine friends to put on their summer eye wear, those fashionable masks that protect them against flies and gnats. Warmer weather brings out bugs, and horses need help to make it through the summer without serious eye infections. If their two-legged owners don’t supply the fly masks, one of their four-legged friends is standing by ready to help. As a child I always wondered who taught horses out in the fields to stand the way they do—side by side and head to tail. It seems to me they would rather stand with their heads together, looking in the same direction. Later I realized they were actually helping one another. One horse’s tail swishes the other’s head and visa versa. With this simple act, they keep those annoying and pesky insects away. God has given horses a natural understanding of how to help one another and to be in a position to receive help in return. (more…)

The Spirit of Truth
Sunday, June 1st, 2014
Christ said in John 16:16-17, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” After He left He would ask the Father to send “another Helper” and He delivered on this promise in a powerful way at Pentecost. As per the Promise in Joel 2:28, the promised Spirit was poured out on all of mankind. The Church, mankind and all believers would be forever affected by the cataclysmic event. (more…)
